Our Story

Greta and Andrew Platt began The Biscuit in 2004 in Somerville, MA, serving a wide variety of hand-crafted baked goods, soups, sandwiches and salads. Greta's background was in fine dining, working in several iconic Boston restaurants in front of the house operations. Andrew put himself through music school by working in a number of bakeries in Boston and Cambridge, discovering a passion for  bread-baking that rivaled his love for music. They left their space in Somerville in 2019.

After a year-long stint at Bow Market in Union Square, Somerville, they acquired KO Meat Pies in the Shipyard in East Boston, merging their bakery fare and coffee program with the Australian Savory Pie menu that has made KO's a hugely popular spot for the past 10 years.

Why a Pie Shop?

After closing our original bakery at the end of 2019, after 15 years serving Somerville & Cambridge, we’d hoped to return to the neighborhood and continue to serve the community we knew well. We searched high and low for opportunities, but always came up short.

Then along came KO’s.

We’d discovered KO’s at the Shipyard many years ago, fell in love with the food, and the overall experience of dining in a marina! When the opportunity arose to purchase KO, we leapt. Their straight-forward approach to comfort food matched our own, and their unpretentiousness suited us to a T.

We’ve spent years and years crafting sweet pies (along with a host of savory goodies, too), and we thought to ourselves, why not marry our concept with KO’s savory pies? It seemed so natural. Adding a coffee program as well seemed like a no-brainer.

The Pandemic has taught us all new ways to utilize outdoor space, and the new Seabiscuit embraces that concept whole-heartedly, providing a safe environment to dine and socialize.

We intend on keeping all of KO’s current offerings, just expanding the menu to include a breakfast program, served 5 days a week, come Fall 2021.
